LT_Frog asked:
Assume you have a 1080i HD signal source (e.g. XBox 360). Given the specs below, which TV do you think the end result picture would look better on, assuming all other specs are nearly identical?
1. 1080i TV, but with 1024×1080 max resolution
2. 720p TV, but with 1366×768 max resolution

720p HD signal translates into 1280×720 and 1080i (or p) translates into 1920×1080 resolution, so neither of the above examples match up perfectly. I know that the TV compensates for the differences between its native resolution and the HD resolution, but I’m not sure what would be better.
I wish more manufacturers matched their resolutions with HD resolutions better.
Also, I’ve read that 720p and 1080i are very close in quality but I think that means a 720p signal on a 720p TV -vs- 1080i signal on a 1080i TV. So the question is, which of the following is better?
1. a 1080i source on a 720p TV OR
2. a 720p source on a 1080i TV
