How do I connect my Sanyo dp26649 tv to a reciever using the digital out jack?

I have connected the digital out cable from the tv to the receiver, but the sound is still coming through the tv’s speakers. The inputs that I would like to come through the receiver are the TV, PS2, and my laptop which is connected to the tv through a hdmi.
