My tv will pick up cable channels 2-53 but not 54-80. I have tried everything I can think if like unplugging the cable and removing all the channels and adding them. I tv also wont even go to the channels I know I should have even when I enter them in. I am at a loss of what to do now besides by a new tv which I can’t afford.

  1. Have it do a channel scan monthly, in settings.

  2. You probably have a TV that only goes to 53. Unless 54 are pay channels that need decoder.

  3. Your TV tuner may not be capable of going higher than channel 53. It is quite common on older TV’s.

  4. You should try going into the Menu settings on your TV,and look for something related to AIR/CABLE. This setting will allow you to select what channels your TV gets, whether it’s Cable (CATV), or Over the Air (AIR). You should make sure that it is selected to CATV1. If this is not successful, then let the TV do an automatic channel search to get the channels.

  5. If this is a fairly recent problem then the issue isn’t the tv, most likely. Because of the switch from antenna to digital, many channels are getting dropped unless you have a digital converter. If this is the problem, contact your local cable company and ask what kind of deals they offer. Many companies will give you free service for a set period of time to offset the inconvenience.

if this isn’t a new problem then yes it might unfortunately be the TV. I would suggest checking another TV in the house or seeing if a neighbor will be kind enough to let you borrow one to see if you need to buy a new tv.

Another possible problem could be the connection itself. Sometimes when the connection from the outside gets old, problems arise. The connector could be bad and the problem just now is taking place or somebody may have split off of your line from the pole causing poor signal.
